Concurrent Local and Remote Applications
The Server engine allows both remote client requests as well as communications from applications running on the same computer as the server. This section explains what server Configuration settings are used to enable remote and local access.
Note
To perform these steps, you must have full administrator-level rights on the machine where the database engine is running, or be a member of the Pervasive_Admin group defined on the machine where the database engine is running.
To enable database connections from both remote and local applications
- You must be sitting at the Windows server computer where the database server runs. Start Pervasive Control Center. Click the Start menu, then choose Programs4Pervasive.SQL V84Control Center.
- Double-click Pervasive.SQL V8 Engines. Double-click the icon representing your server. Double-click Configuration for your server.
- Enter the user and password if prompted.
- Double-click Server and click Access. In the right-hand window pane, double-click Accept Remote Requests. Set the value to On. If you wish to prevent the server from accepting client connections from other computers, set the value to Off. Click OK.
- Double-click Client and click Access. Double-click Use Local MicroKernel Engine. Set the value to On. Click OK.
- Double-click Use Remote MicroKernel Engine. If you want to be able to access databases on other computers, set the value to On. If you plan to access data on this computer only, set the value to Off. Click OK.
- Double-click Target Engine. Set the value to Server Only. Click OK.
- Click to apply the changes. You must restart the server engine for the changes to take effect.
