SFT III for NetWare 4.2
SFT (System Fault Tolerance) is a means of protecting data by providing ways to automatically recover from hardware failures. SFT provides three levels of protection; each level includes the previous levels. The levels, respectively, are hot fix, disk mirroring, and server mirroring.
Server mirroring involves two identical servers directly connected by a mirrored server link. If the hardware of the primary server fails, a secondary server continues to network services without any network downtime. The secondary server maintains the same memory image and the same disk contents as the primary server. When the secondary server takes over, all files, services, and applications remain available to network clients.
SFT level three (SFT III) is an add-on service to NetWare 4.2. Install and configure SFT III as directed by the Novell documentation. Note the following, however:
- Novell no longer sells SFT III
- SFT III requires the IPX/SPX protocol
- The Novell NetWare Client is required to connect to the SFT III server or the Monitor utility in the PCC does not display information correctly
Pervasive.SQL V8 supports SFT III. You may use the transactional and relational access methods and all Pervasive.SQL interfaces. No special configuration or special licensing of the Pervasive.SQL server engine is required for use with SFT III.
Install Pervasive.SQL V8 only on the mirrored server (the primary). You do not install it on both the primary and the secondary server.
